Here's how to sort your ironing beads creatively & cleverly

Iron-on beads are little magic beads. They spark imagination, make children's eyes sparkle, and turn an idea into a small work of art. But anyone who crafts with them regularly—whether with children, alone, or for loving DIY projects—knows this: when the colors mix wildly, favorite beads suddenly disappear, or a rainbow rolls across the floor while transferring the mixture… well, then the magic is briefly gone.

To prevent this from happening (and to enjoy crafting even more), it's worth bringing a little loving order to your beaded kingdom. And don't worry: you can do this without expensive crafting chaos, just with a little imagination, heart, and a few pretty ideas.

Sorting boxes - classics with glitter dust

  • Almost every craft enthusiast knows these – and with a few tricks, they become real favorite helpers:
  • Transparent boxes make finding colors child's play.
  • Fixed compartments prevent your treasures from tumbling around.
  • The click closure ensures that everything stays in place when crafting on the go.

Pixie tip:
I like to sort by color nuances, so pastel pink, dusty rose, pink, and neon pink are all together. This makes combining colors super quick, and often leads to completely new ideas!

Ice cube trays & muffin tins - the sweet way to sort pearls

What is normally found in the kitchen also brings order to the craft table and simply looks charming:

  • Silicone molds are soft and perfect for small hands.
  • Muffin trays come in many colors and can be easily placed on the table.

Ideal if you only need a small selection, do crafts with children, prefer to work openly and want to access the materials immediately.

Pixie idea:
Fill a muffin tin with your current project colors and place it next to your pegboard – this will help you stay in the creative flow!

Test tubes & storage jars - for decoration lovers

Do you like things neat and unique? Then these glasses are just right for you:

  • Test tubes in a wooden stand look like magic potions from a fairy forest.
  • Screw-top jars (e.g. mini jam jars) can be stacked, labeled and attractively displayed on shelves.

Advantages:

  • Your pearls will remain dust-free.
  • Ideal for photos, reels or short videos
  • Can be combined with labels, stickers or symbols

Stackable boxes - little favorite places for your pearls

Sometimes less is more. And sometimes you just want to have a few favorite colors with you – for example, for vacation, a creative date with friends, or to take to your grandparents' house.

  • One color per can
  • Stackable, transportable, wonderful
  • And with a small colored sticker on top, you immediately know what's inside.

Extra nice: For children, you can also pack the containers according to themes – e.g. “Rainbow”, “Animals”, “Ice Cream & Sweets”

Tea boxes, display cases & wooden compartments - for everyone who likes it cozy.

If you're a fan of wood, vintage charm, or crafting with soul, you'll love these ideas:

  • Tea boxes with compartments - pretty on the table and super practical
  • Wall-mounted display cases - decorative AND functional
  • Combine this with small wooden spoons, and the sorting becomes almost meditative.

Your organization, your style. It can be unique, simple, or playful. It should feel good and inspire you, not restrict you. What truly matters is that you feel comfortable in your crafting space. That you know where everything is. And that your creative heart has room to shine! My little DIY idea for better bead organization? Large IKEA jars for the midi beads, small ones for the minis, all neatly lined up on a simple picture frame on the wall. This way, my favorite people and I can see every color at a glance, and sorting becomes twice as much fun. Practical, pretty, and a real Melting Pixie favorite project!

Julia, how do you do that with the color codes?

It's so easy! I cut the color codes directly from the bead packaging and attached them to the outside of the glass base. This keeps everything nice and organized. The matching color chart is within easy reach – this helps us not only to identify shades (color names) but also when a favorite color runs low and needs to be reordered.
